🐎8.25 How I Gained a Young Horse’s Trust at the Stable
I had not been to the stable for a long time because of the heat and my tendency to get heatstroke. I went to help my coach take care of a new horse today. The horse is young only seven years old. It is not tall with short legs but moves in a fast rhythm.
The horse seemed unfamiliar with the stable. It was unfriendly and bared its teeth when people got close. I stayed beside it quietly. My calm presence made it aware of me. Then I moved closer. It sniffed my hand. I stroked from its nose upward gently but not floating my hands in the air. That was when it started to trust me.
When my coach came over again the horse did not bare its teeth anymore. Horses need patient and steady people to adapt to a new environment.
