π¦ββ¬7.13 Luhu X A4 Art Museum: Upcoming Collaboration with Artist Liu Yi on Bird Collision Project
Since childhood, I wanted to work in art. I never had the chance to study it in a structured way, and over time I simply let it flow. I never expected that while working in another field, art would find its way back into my life.
This spring, Luhu Foundation introduced me to A4 Art Museum and they always wanted to collab with me on bird-collision prevention science education materials and other events. Today (yes, I hate working on weekends, but this was worth it since the artist is only in Chengdu from Shanghai this weekend), A4 invited me to the museum to discuss a project with artist Liu Yi. He is Associate Professor and Head of Public Art at the Shanghai Institute of Visual Arts, Director at the Shanghai Creative Designers Association, Research Fellow at the IPA International Public Art Association, and Founder of 61CREATIVE.
We confirmed a collaboration. We will host a workshop to create DIY stickers that prevent bird collisions during this fall migration season. The head of Chengdu Raptor Station (also my project consultant) will give a 30 mins lecture on bird migration data in Chengdu. Since we are close, I may invite him pro bono to help save some funding costs. I will also prepare a bird collision action guide as a take-home science resource (itβs probably gonna be in a flyer format).
Liu Yi will guide participants in using his digital painting patterns as the base. People will then design their own birds on top of these templates. All works will be combined into a layout measuring 5 by 5 cm, designed in golden ratio proportions, and installed on the museumβs glass walls. Later, the stickers may be applied onto glasses in parks in the Tianfu New Area and even into residential community spaces as public science displays.
The deal is set. I am looking forward to seeing the workshop come alive on August 24 and seeing how our stickers could expand further.
