đŸȘș7.9 CBBS: A New Trick to Get Citizen Scientists Out to the Far-Edge Sample Areas

Only 10 days remain before this year’s BBS ends.
Goal: 80 sample areas.
Progress: 70 done, 10 left.

The challenge lies in the final 10. They sit on Chengdu’s far edges, and most citizens are reluctant to go that far. Still, participation this year has been much stronger than in the past. Our outreach worked—expert talks helped people understand BBS methods, and even our comics about survey life drew real interest.

For the last stretch, i suggested something new: giving remote sample areas bold, intriguing theme titles to spark curiosity. One example—“The Chengdu You’ll Never Reach.”

With that hook, our core team and a few citizen scientists set out together.

The reward? Breathtaking scenery. One site looked like a Yunnan tea estate—an unforgettable view to close the effort.
