🐦⬛8.10 Luhu: Running an Event Right After Landing
This trip drained me. Too many transfers, early mornings, late nights. Came back with a cold. But the event had been long planned. Canceling was not an option.
The first event of our new year was indoors. The weather outside is either storms or forty degrees, so we stayed safe inside.
I shared my birdwatching journey and the project’s yearly goals. The plan is to keep running regular birdwatching trips. By year-end we aim to publish either a Luhu Bird Guidebook for beginners or a collection of stories about the relationship between the residents in this district/birds.
We also launched the Navigator Program. We are recruiting long-term partners to serve as vice captains, duty leaders, event recorders, poster designers, and promoters (considering that I will not be in chengdu nxt autumn prolly and i hope this project can be led by residents/volunteers solely). Hetong will train those who sign up. When positions open, they will get priority. Recruitment officially starts next month. August is closed.
At the event we studied how to identify Chengdu’s “Four Guardians” of birdwatching. Through a short game we explored what defines a bird and basic birding ethics. Many realized they were unclear about the definition of a bird. But everyone quickly recognized the Four Guardians, maybe because they look familiar.
People got to know each other and defined their own relationship with birds: observer type, inspired type, symbiotic type, even destructive type. It will be interesting to see how these relationships grow.
Thanks to everyone for bearing with me while I spoke through a cold. Next time I will bring more energy.
