🪺5.25 CBBS: What? You have to take a test to become a BBS citizen scientist?
At our meeting last night, the director decided that the fastest way to get volunteers fully up to speed—so they can run surveys flawlessly, visualize the workflow before heading into the field (and feel less worried once they’re there), and instantly ID breeding birds by appearance, calls, or flight—is the ultimate study hack: a “question bank” of birds.
I’ve been tasked with selecting and curating the photos. I’m going for challenging angles and hard-to-recognize shots—making this the toughest prep possible. The goal is to create a question bank with 150 species in three days, five photos each. It’s pretty much a race against time. On top of that, I need to contact the eBird helpdesk to sort out the usage rights. Fingers crossed that my connections with Chris or friends at eBird will help speed things up, so we can finish the question bank on time. 😭
