Event Design

9:30–10:20 Bird Habitat Exploration

  • Plant community structure: observe submerged, floating, emergent, and shore plants in layers.

  • Ecological function: water purification, soil stabilization, microclimate regulation.

  • Challenge task: complete a matching card game connecting plants with their ecological role. Learn 20+ wetland plant species.

10:20–11:00 Bird Knowledge Class

  • Luhu case study: ecological restoration, conservation, and biodiversity monitoring in Luhu Park.

  • Bird morphology: beak adaptation, foot traits, feather coloration.

  • Behavioral ecology: hunting strategies, nest choice, migration codes.

  • Species relations: build a food chain using the wetland ecological pyramid model.

11:00–12:00 Field Birdwatching Practice

  • Equipment training: binocular focus, quick locating, safe distance rules.

  • Scientific recording: fill out Birdwatching Log with time, place, species, count, and behavior.

  • Sound recognition: identify 5 common bird songs by ear.

  • Habitat evaluation: learn to assess with water quality, vegetation cover, and human disturbance.

  • Field observation: egrets, pond herons, moorhens with guided questions.

  • Creative design: draft a mini community bird protection plan (drawing, text, or oral presentation).

12:00–12:25 Junior Scientist Action

  • Data collection: submit and summarize results into the β€œChengdu Wetland Observation Report.”

  • Reflection: kids record short videos to share their feelings and learning outcomes.
