🐦⬛8.16 Luhu: First Weekend Birdwalk Under the New Annual Theme at Luye Park
We kicked off the new theme with the Weekend Birdwalk at Luye Park. The bird of the day was the Common Moorhen. Everyone focused on its looks and behavior and we even managed to tell apart juveniles from adults.
Despite the hot weather and worries about a “bird drought” we ended up spotting 13 species in several exciting waves. The Collared Finchbill and Oriental Greenfinch stood out since they are not common in Chengdu city parks. Luye often reminds me of Qinglong Lake rich and rewarding every time.
Participants also created new ways to define their bond with birds. Some said birds are neighbors. Some saw them as a bridge to meeting new human friends. Others said they are entries to sharpen observation. Some described them as healing similar beings. Some felt admiration coexistence even conflict or envy.
Many friends said the charm and energy of birds eased stress and fatigue and made waking up early worth it. People also noticed new things in their surroundings. One highlighted how Luye Park’s wetland ponds are well designed not too big not too small providing shelter for birds yet close enough for us to watch. Another was surprised that a man made park could actually be more bird friendly than expected.
Local residents who usually only noticed flowers or playgrounds said they now realized the park is rich with birdlife. They plan to watch more carefully and felt that walking or jogging there will be more fun with birdwatching. Visitors from other cities even said they now want to explore their own wetland parks for birds after this experience.
Through birds moods lifted and attention shifted. People became more aware of the nature and birdlife right outside their windows.
